Good morning Buttercups.
I hope your weekend was nice. Mine was. I summited* Mt. Rainier with some friends.
(*Walked approximately 0.6 miles from the visitor center parking lot, coffee in hand.)
A new Rockefeller Foundation study says 80% of Americans want more Food Is Medicine programs. Adorable, really. Coming from the same family that helped replace food with pharmaceuticals in the first place. I won’t go full history rant here, but if you’re curious how we traded butter for statins and ended up obese and inflamed, say the word. I’ve got receipts.
Moms: food marketers don’t care about your kids’ health. A new study from Australia confirmed that only 7% of marketed toddler foods meet nutritional standards. Think: fruit purees, puffs, crackers, juice, etc.
The ban on food dyes in West Virginia schools started on August 1st. RIP Jello-O. Gone but not forgotten.
Kim Kardashian’s new face wear thing is making people mad. Apparently it doesn’t work. I’m not sure what it’s supposed to do. It’s gives: wisdom teeth extraction follow-up appointment meets Middle Ages combat readiness.
The seed oil industry’s new target? India. It makes sense they’re making moves there. There’s like a billion people. To the Indian Buttercups: hold the line. Keep running on ghee.
RFK Jr. is allegedly planning to replace the panel for the HHS’s Preventive Services Task Force. My thoughts? I didn’t know this panel existed.
Ozempic doesn’t improve your cardio, say researchers at UVA. Cardiovascular health is an independent factor from weight when it comes to overall health and longevity. Translation: jab ≠ fitness. It often leads to muscle loss and fatigue.
I’ve never been closer to converting to Mormonism after seeing Ballerina Farms’ sick new farm stand.
A few weeks ago, President Trump announced this:
People were excited. LA hipsters would no longer have to smuggle in Mexican Coke (the drink).
“It’s just better!” Trump said.
But not so fast, says The New York Times. Ever on the frontlines of truth, the paper dispatched its wine critic to weigh in. And wouldn’t you know it? Trump is wrong. High fructose corn syrup, we’re told, actually tastes better than cane sugar.
So there you have it. Trump was wrong. Again.
Democracy drinks soda with corn syrup.
Defenders of ultra-processed food: When I wake up in the morning and read the dire health reporting from prominent news outlets, I don’t get sad or upset. I think: Job security.
Most recent example? CNN’s health desk:
This piece informs us that plant-based meat is healthy, and red meat and saturated fat is deadly.
I’m shocked. This is news to me. I wish I would’ve known this before I committed to the butter bit. Darn.
Thanks to outlets like CNN and NYT’s, I feel confident that Running On Butter has a corner on the health news market.
