I would like to add that boys that get a lot of physical activity (get the wiggles out) actually can sit down and solve complex math problems. My boys will (rather happily) sit down to complex pre calculus and also run wild in the park building forts and such.
Seriously though, as a former chronic procrastinator—saying you have ADHD is making your lack of discipline more intense. Literally just start to doing things.
Once again Vance, you have hit the nail directly on the head with this post. I can not tell you how many times I do the eye roll when someone tells me they have ADHD, or their child has ADHD, especially in the 40+ age group of women who are dealing with hormone imbalances. That seems to be the new diagnosis. 'Maybe it is the fact that your estrogen is in the toilet, darling'. OR 'Have you looked at what you are eating..Ultraprocessed foods laden with sugars and colorings.Hmm..I also strongly agree that boys just learn differently and need to move. When my son was in middle school, we enrolled him in to a sports based program that mainly focused on hockey but they also did other sports. They did hockey in the morning before school and then in the afternoon, they did another activity focused class. I will always remember what one of the teachers said..'Boys are kinetic learners, they need to move'. Yet here we are in schools, making these kids sit still for 6+ hours a day. and if they can't sit, the powers that be medicate them so that they will sit..
Tell Sarah Beth about the wonders of maple syrup, heavy cream, and pumpkin spice powder! Like REALLY good coffee is legit attainable without white sugar and Chobani starch juice.
Have you read "A Disease Called Childhood"? In there he says something about how ADHD sufferers could also be called boys.
While I readily admit that people's brains work differently, I am so ready to be done with slapping labels on all those people. Especially if the label involves medication that can mess up the child for life.

My name is Abbie from Scottsdale (formerly of Denver), and I approve this message.
